today i learned that my cousin heather is really a hispanic model for verizon wireless online media.

juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. it is a day dedicated to the celebration of african american freedom. i learned about this when i was in cleveland, ohio while going to school for social work. they did a lot at case western to educate us on diversity and different perspectives. i was suprised to learn at age 24 of a holiday that i had never known about but that was so widely known in other communities and part of our nation’s history.

here’s to the man who taught me how to drive a car (first when i was about 8 and then later when i was 15 – how to drive a stick) catch a fish, weave dangerously in and out of heavy traffic, drive a boat, open up a therapy session, drizzle milk through my teeth- preferably in public, sing and harmonize, put air in my tires, whistle, swim, water-ski, ice-skate, work hard, watch basketball, use brass-knuckles (i found these one day while i was cleaning out the closet…hahaha. aren’t they illegal?), and how love and family are things to be committed to and have close to your heart.

rock city festival is this week-end, june 19th and june 20th. this is a free show with a great line-up of bands playing out in the majestic parking lot.
