halloween at work
our dept. theme this year was “video gaming” but our section turned into ms. pacman. we won third prize in the office decorating contest. slightly down from last year’s first place but that’s ok. at least this year i didn’t make any little kids cry. i mean, not that i know of anyway.

caught in the crossfire
jon stewart’s appearance on cnn’s crossfire was just about the funniest thing i’ve seen in a long time. here is a link to a page on ifilm where you can download it.
i love that people were applauding in the audience. i too applaud.
thank you, jon.

breast
today at work, i received three different emails containing the word “breast” in the subject line. and i’m thinking, there is no way that would have happened 50 years ago. good way to get people’s attention though. and the body copy read on…”october is breast cancer awareness month…you can pick up your little pink ribbon bla bla bla…”
i first became aware of this while working with the team that launched the first version of www.fordvehicles.com/thecause. it was one of the most personal projects i have ever worked on. an author, a survivor, helped with the concepting of a lot of the content.
so please everyone, go find yourself a cute little pink ribbon. you too can be one of “those” people. the kind that wear ribbons. next, you’ll be wearing bumper stickers. but, i digress.
i was talking to someone at work about this month-long awareness thing and she was wondering if she had missed all the race for the cure events. i later sent her this link.

today is my mom’s 57th birthday. my mom is one of the cutest people you will ever meet. she giggles when she talks, she runs from room to room - urgently although not in a hurry. she is smart - on the subject of gardening, she refers to things by their kingdom, phylum, species etc. has studied and knows several different languages, is very creative - skilled in watercolor, is a great cook. her amazing strength is admirable. she is my hero.

superman
christopher reeves proved to be somewhat of a superman in his life. after surviving a near fatal horse riding accident during which he broke his neck and became paralyzed, he became a huge supporter and activist for stem cell research. he even continued to act.
i was very suprised to learn that he had died last sunday after going into cardiac arrest on saturday. he was suffering from complications arising from a pressure wound which i guess is commonly experienced by people living with paralysis. i was expecting him to learn how to fly one day. if there was anyone that could, it would have been him. he really inspired me and i’m sure several others with his strong passion for life and hope.
